Landscape-scale connectivity and fragment size determine species composition of grassland fragments

چکیده
As a consequence of agricultural intensification and habitat fragmentation since the mid-20th century, biological diversity has declined considerably throughout world, particularly in Europe. We assessed how landscape-scale heterogeneity, such as variation fragment size (small vs. large) landscape configuration (measured connectivity index), affect plant arthropod diversity. focused on arthropods with different feeding behaviour mobility, spiders (predators, moderate dispersal), true bugs (mainly herbivores omnivores wild bees (pollinators good dispersal abilities), wasps (pollinators, abilities). studied 60 dry grassland fragments same region (Hungarian Great Plain); 30 were represented by component forest-steppe stands, situated burial mounds (kurgans). Forest-steppes are mosaics grasslands small forests matrix plantation forests. Kurgans ancient moderately disturbed surrounded fields. The ranged between 0.16–6.88 ha (small: 0.16–0.48 ha, large: 0.93–6.88 ha) for forest-steppes 0.01–0.44 0.01–0.10 0.20–0.44 kurgans. Fragments also an isolation gradient from almost cleared homogenous landscapes, to landscapes relatively high compositional heterogeneity. Fragment size, connectivity, their interaction affected specialist generalist species abundances Large had higher richness ground-dwelling spiders, effect was more strongly positive negative generalists large than fragments. However, we found strong impact plants kurgans contrast larger ones. conclude that besides well-known enhancing quality, increasing restoring natural semi-natural patches would help maintain biodiversity.

language learning strategies and vocabulary size of iranian efl learners
learning a second or foreign language requires the manipulation of four main skills, namely, listening, reading, speaking, and writing which lead to effective communication. it is obvious that vocabulary is an indispensible part of any communication, so without a vocabulary, no meaningful communication can take place and meaningful communication relies heavily on vocabulary. one fundamental fac...
Flooding and fragment size interact to determine survival and regrowth after fragmentation in two stoloniferous Trifolium species
Clonal plants, which reproduce by means of stolons and rhizomes, are common in frequently flooded habitats. Resilience to disturbance is an important trait enabling plants to survive in such highly disturbed habitats. Resource storage is thought to enable clonal plants to resume growth after clonal fragmentation caused by disturbance. Here we investigated if submergence prior to disturbance red...

the major purpose of this study was to develop the translation teacher competency test (ttct) and examine its construct and predictive validity. the present study was conducted in two phases: a qualitative phase as well as a quantitative phase. in the first phase of the study, the author attempted to find out the major areas of competency required for an academic translation teacher. the second...
Habitat Characteristics of Forest Fragments Determine Specialisation of Plant-Frugivore Networks in a Mosaic Forest Landscape
Plant-frugivore networks play a key role in the regeneration of sub-tropical forest ecosystems. However, information about the impact of habitat characteristics on plant-frugivore networks in fragmented forests is scarce. We investigated the importance of fruit abundance, fruiting plant species richness and canopy cover within habitat fragments for the structure and robustness of plant-frugivor...
متن کاملPopulation size and fire intensity determine post-fire abundance in grassland lichens
Questions: What is the variability in abundance of lichens on grassland soil between and within fields after prescribed fire? Is post-fire lichen abundance an effect of pre-fire population size? Location: Cedar Creek Natural History Area, Minnesota, USA. Methods: Lichen abundance, estimated as ground cover and dominated by Cladonia spp., was mapped in plots in two fields before prescribed burni...
